2006年1月29日,赵振宇大使通过《集锦报》向在牙华侨华人和牙买加民众致新春贺辞,全文如下:
Dear Readers, When the Year of Dog is running to us at its buoyant pace, soon to leave the Year of Rooster behind, I have the great pleasure to extend,on behalf of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, the best wishes tobothmy fellow Chinese in Jamaica and the Jamaican people for a happy and prosperous New Year. Looking back on the year of 2005, we are happy to see that new headway had been made in China’s economic, political, cultural and social development. People’s livelihood had also been further improved. In 2005, China maintained a vigorous momentum of economic development with its GDP growing at a rate of 9.8%, making the country the world’s 6th largest economy. China scored a record-high foreign trade volume at USD 1.4 trillion, ranking the 3rd in the world. It was in 2005 that Shenzhou-6 spacecraft, with 2 astronauts on board, successfully completed its five-day space journey, marking another great achievement in China’s space exploration. Internationally, adhering to the independent foreign policy of peace and its commitment to peaceful development, China in 2005 strengthened its friendship and mutually-beneficial cooperation with many countries in the world by conducting an all-dimensional diplomacy. China actively participated in international affairs and playeda constructive role in resolving major international and regional issues. In so doing, China has created a favourable international environment and an amicable neighborhood for its modernization drive, and made new contributions to the maintenance of world peace and promotion of common development. 2005 was also the year of Sino-Jamaican friendship, which witnessed a rapid development of bilateral relations and expanded cooperation in many fields including politics, economy and trade, culture, education, information, science and technology, tourism and sports. It was in this year that China and Jamaica co-sponsored the first ministerial conference of the Sino-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum during Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong’s visit to Jamaica in February. Prime Minister P. J. Patterson’s visit to China in June brought bilateral relations to a new high. All these interactions culminated in the establishment of the Jamaican Embassy in China in July. The friendly cooperative relationship between the two countries is now running on the fast track and will unfold itself into a brighter future. Thanks to the joint efforts of both countries, our economic and trade cooperation also enjoyed rapid and steady advancement. Cooperative projects had progressed smoothly, as we witnessed the official ground-breaking of the Greenfield Cricket Stadium in November, the conclusion of the construction contract of the Sligovile Sports Complex in December, and the reception of Chinese pipes for theWater Systems Rehabilitation and Extension Project at the end of the year. China and Jamaica have set themselves for further boosting of bilateral relations in the new year through the establishment of thefriendly partnership for common development. It is my sincere hope that this process will continue with increased support from the Jamaican Chinese community. The Chinese Community has not only played an important part in the nation building of Jamaica, but also served as a bridge to bring China and Jamaica -- the two distant lands nearer.Without the active participation of the Chinese community, the China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum wouldn't have been so successful. Prime Minister P. J. Patterson’s invitation for some prominent figures among the Chinese Community to join his delegation to visit China indicated that the Jamaican Government fully recognizes the important role played by the Chinese Community in accelerating the cooperative relations between the two countries. The Community has also engaged itself in many exchange programmes which have greatly enhanced the mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and Jamaican peoples. I would also like to express my appreciation for the strong and consistent support to the peaceful reunification of China we have received from the Jamaican Government and the Jamaican Chinese Community. Immediately after the Anti Secession Law was passed by the National People’s Congress of China last March, the Chinese Benevolent Association issued a statement to express its resolute and unshakeable support to this law, reaffirming its consistent adherence to the one China principle. This has proved once again that the early complete reunification of the motherland is the expectation of the Chinese people all over the world. The Year of Dog will see the start of China’s 11th five-year plan (2006 - 2010) for economic and social development. In this year, China will attach more importance to the expansion of domestic demand, advance rural development, improve its economic structure in a bid to build an energy-efficient and environment-friendly society. China will also expand socialist democracy, improve its legal system and continue promoting social harmony. In the international arena, China will raise high the banner of peace, development and cooperation, adhere to the road of peaceful development and the independent foreign policy of peace, and actively participate in the bilateral and multilateral diplomacy. I expect the Sino-Jamaican relations will keep the current strong momentum in the new year. Dear friends, as the traditional Chinese New Year is around the corner, let’s put our hearts together in wishing our homeland and Jamaica peace and prosperity in the New Year. May all of you enjoy happy life, thriving business and good health. KUNG HEE FATT CHOY Sincerely yours,
Zhao Zhenyu Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Jamaica |
