Q: China's Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with his Japanese counterpart Katsuya Okada on the sidelines of the Foreign Ministers' Meetings of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in Hanoi, Vietnam. Please brief us on the meeting.
A: The two foreign ministers expressed their satisfaction with the sound momentum of the overall China-Japan relations. Both sides believe that the agreement reached between leaders of the two countries should be comprehensively implemented so as to move forward the sustained and in-depth development of China-Japan strategic relationship of mutual benefit. The two sides should maintain high-level exchanges and keep injecting fresh political impetus into China-Japan relations. It is important to step up mutually beneficial cooperation and make a success the third China-Japan High-level Economic Dialogue, intensify cooperation at bilateral, regional and global levels and in the fields of high and new technology, information, telecommunications, trade, investment and finance, and promote the establishment of China-Japan-ROK free trade area. The two sides indicated that after consultations between competent Chinese and Japanese authorities, they would hold the first negotiation on the exchange of letters about the principled consensus on the issue of the East China Sea on July 27 according to the agreement reached between leaders of the two countries.
