|Chinese Ambassador NIU Qingbao Delivered a Lecture in UWI|
On March 15th, Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica NIU Qingbao, at the invitation of the Department of Government of the University of the West Indies(UWI), Mona, delivered a lecture on China in the 21st Century to final year undergraduate International Relations students. The lecture was started with a brief introduction of Chinese philosophy. As March 15th marked the closing of the annual session of National People's Congress (NPC) and Consumer Rights Day, Ambassador NIU introduced the NPC sessions and the Government Work Report, focusing on China's achievements, objectives and challenges in economic and social development. Ambassador NIU focused a significant part of his speech on China unswervingly pursuing an independent foreign policy of peace and the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-Existence. He also elaborated on the Belt and Road Initiative and International Cooperation in Production Capacity, through which China participates in the global governance.
After his speech, the students actively participated in the interactions with Ambassador NIU. Ambassador NIU answered the questions put forward by the students on hot topicssuch as China-Jamaica bilateral relations, the situation of the Korean Peninsula, etc.
