Upgraded Marcus Garvey Drive Officially Opened

An upgraded and expanded Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston was officially opened to traffic on Oct 5, 2017.

Chinese Ambassador NIU Qingbao and Prime Minister Andrew Holness delivered their speeches, stressing the Friendly Partnership for Common Development between China and Jamaica. Both expresses their hopes to further expand cooperation between China and Jamaica.

 

The Hon. Desmond Mckenzie, Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Mr. Mikael Phillips, Opposition Spokesman on Transport and Works and Dr. Hu Zhimin, Deputy General Manager of CHEC, American Division, addressed the audience and joined Prime Minister Holness and Ambassador Niu in the ribbon- cutting.

 
 
The project of Marcus Garvey Drive upgradation, part of the Major Infrastructure Development Program, was financed by China EXIM Back and implemented by CHEC. Local sub- Contractors and more than 100 Jamaican workers were involved in the project.

Although Kingston/ ST Andrew was hit by torrential rains and many streets seriously flooded, the upgraded Marcus Garvey Drive was dry and hassle free, showing fist class quality and drainage system.
