On September 26, 2005, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica addressed a Note to the Chinese Embassy in Jamaica, requesting the latter to convey the congratulatory message from Minister K.D. Knight to Foreign Minster Li Zhaoxing of China on the occasion of the 56^th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The following is the full text of the congratulatory message:

 

"On the occasion of the commemoration of your National Day, The Government and People of Jamaica join me in extending congratulations to the Government and People of the People's Republic of China.

 

There is indeed much for China to celebrate during this 56^th year of the founding of the People's Republic. This milestone in your country's history is one which calls for reflection on national achievements and challenges. The hard work and determination of the people of China will no doubt augur well for the continued development of your country.

 

Over the years, bilateral cooperation between Jamaica and China has grown tremendously, culmination in the recent opening of the Jamaican Embassy in China and the appointment of a resident Ambassador. We have also enjoyed fruitful collaboration in the pursuit of shared interests in multilateral organizations such as the United Nations and the Group of 77 and China.

 

I look forward to the further strengthening of the bonds of friendship that exist between our countries at the bilateral level and the consolidation of our partnership at the multilateral level.
