China and the EU Hold the First Round of Strategic Dialogue

On December 20, 2005, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui held the first round of China-EU strategic dialogue with Ian Pearson, Minister of State for Trade & Foreign Affairs of the UK that is the president country, and other representatives of the EU "Troika" in London. Both sides conducted in-depth discussions from a macroscopic and strategic perspective on their respective role in the international system, China's peaceful development road and EU integration development, as well as international and regional issues of common interest. Both sides made positive comments on the development of China-EU relations and concertedly agreed to continue implementing the achievements of the 8th China-EU Leaders' Meeting and further push for the development of China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership.

Both sides held that the first round of strategic dialogue has scored fruitful results and should be continued.
