On June 22, 2007, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei called on Governor-General of Jamaica Kenneth Hall and held talks with Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica. He said China has always attached great importance to developing ties with Jamaica. Since the two countries established diplomatic ties 35 years ago, bilateral relations have made rapid progress with deepening political trust and smooth development of friendly cooperation. He said China appreciates Jamaica for its firm adherence to the one-China policy and support of China's peaceful reunification. China supports economic and social construction in Jamaica and will continue to offer assistance within its ability to the country, he said, pledging that China stands ready to work with Jamaica to promote bilateral ties for the benefit of both peoples.
The Jamaican side fully agreed with He's comments on bilateral ties, saying that such ties are of great significance to Jamaica. They vowed to adhere to the one-China policy and support China's peaceful reunification. The Jamaican side also thanked for China's long-standing support to the country, adding they were looking forward to strengthening cooperation with China in all areas to deepen bilateral ties.
