Xi Jinping Meets with President Mamnoon Hussain of Pakistan

On June 9, 2018, President Xi Jinping met in Qingdao with President Mamnoon Hussain of Pakistan.

Xi Jinping congratulated Pakistan on its participation in the Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as a full member for the first time. Xi Jinping pointed out that in recent years, China-Pakistan relations have maintained a sound development momentum. The China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperation is not only the precious treasure of the two countries, but also serves as a model of building a new type of international relations. Attaching great importance to bilateral relations, China is willing to, together with Pakistan, intensify high-level exchanges and strategic communication, strengthen friendly exchanges in all fields, steadily promote the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and cooperation in such fields as energy and transportation infrastructure under the “Belt and Road” framework, and improve the level of cooperation in counter-terrorism and security, in a bid to promote bilateral relations for greater development.

Xi Jinping stressed that China will continue to firmly support Pakistan in safeguarding national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and support Pakistan in independently choosing its own development path. China will, as always, work with Pakistan to firmly support each other on issues involving each other’s core interests, so as to safeguard the common interests of the two countries and developing countries at large.

Mamnoon Hussain expressed that China is a reliable friend and firm partner of Pakistan, and relations between the two countries are unshakable. The Pakistani side adheres to the one-China policy, firmly supports China's core interests, and is willing to continue to maintain high-level exchanges, deepen cooperation in all fields including economy, trade and security, advance the construction of the CPEC, and intensify coordination in international and regional affairs with the Chinese side. Pakistan supports China in playing a greater role in international affairs, and believes that it is of great importance to safeguarding global security and stability.
