Li Keqiang Arrives in Berlin to Host the Fifth Round of China-Germany Inter-governmental Consultation and Pay an Official Visit to Germany

On the afternoon of July 8, 2018 local time, upon the invitation of Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, Premier Li Keqiang arrived at Berlin Tegel Airport by special plane. He will co-host the fifth round of China-Germany inter-governmental consultation with Angela Merkel and pay an official visit to Germany.

Li Keqiang walked down the ramp. The guard of honor lined up on both sides of the red carpet and saluted to Li Keqiang. Representatives of the German government, H.E. Shi Mingde, Chinese Ambassador to Germany, and others greeted Li Keqiang at the airport.

Li Keqiang expressed that the respective new governments of China and Germany have been formed less than half a year, and Premier and Chancellor of the two countries have achieved mutual visits, which fully demonstrated China-Germany sound relations and the common will to enhance cooperation. At present, the inter-governmental consultation mechanism is the largest platform for dialogues and exchanges with the highest level and the widest range of areas between China and Germany, playing a significant role in making coordinated efforts to promote bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Li Keqiang pointed out that under the current complex and volatile international situation, the various departments of the new governments of China and Germany have comprehensively aligned with their counterparts for the first time. Both sides should build consensus and deepen cooperation to jointly seek for development. We should stand at a new starting point, jointly discuss the major plan for all-round cooperation in various fields between China and Germany, and seek well-being for the two countries and the two peoples, so as to inject impetus for promoting China-Europe cooperation and make contributions to safeguarding free trade, multilateralism and the international order featuring fairness and justice.

During the visit in Germany, Li Keqiang will hold talks with Angela Merkel, jointly meet the press, witness the signing of relevant bilateral cooperation documents, attend the China-Germany Economic and Technical Cooperation Forum and deliver a speech, and attend China-Germany automated driving exhibition activity. Li Keqiang will also meet with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany.

Li Keqiang arrived in Berlin after his official visit to Bulgaria and attendance at the Seventh Summit of Heads of Government of China and Central and Eastern European Countries.

Before leaving Sofia, Li Keqiang led a Chinese delegation to make a special visit to the Chinese Embassy in Bulgaria on the afternoon of July 8 to attend the inauguration of the new premises of the Embassy and extend regards to the embassy staff.

When Li Keqiang left Sofia, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov of Bulgaria went to the airport to see him off.
